no power.. no water. one f-bomb. :)

Hey, guys--so, yesterday (day TEN with no power), I had to run a few errands. The boys were at a friend's house; I had to go to school, take a quiz, etc.

I ran home to get one thing, and found out that WE WERE OUT OF WATER! When the power guys were trying to repair our power, they hit a water main... I almost lost it. :) No power. No water. Hot, sticky, frustrating day.

But, SO MANY PEOPLE offered to help us out. We finally took up an offer from a friend of ours and went to their house for supper, showers, a load of mission-critical laundry, brushed our teeth, got all ready for bed and went home.

And, guess what!? We got home at 10:00pm to find that our POWER WAS ON!! After ten days. And, our fridge and freezer stunk, so last night, at 11:00pm, John and I cleaned out our fridge. It's sparkling now!

Now we just have to fill it!

Noah and Nathie-
This is uncle Dan showing off his metal mouth for you. He also says
"go redheads! Redheads rule, brownheads drool". :) (isn't his face
skinny, guys?)

More highlights from this summer...

I wanted to sell my wedding dress slip on eBay, so I took pictures of it. While I was doing that, Caleb thought it was a teepee and began to play quietly under it. This is a pic of that. :) I ended up not selling it after all--because I never got it cleaned, and by the time I get it cleaned and sell it, I'd either break even or be at a loss.... Oh well. If anybody knows anybody that's getting married and wants a slip, let me know! :)
We went to Duke and Corey's last month. The day we got there, we went to the gym where Abby has gymnastics. It was open gym night, and the kids could play and swing and go down slides. Caleb LOVED it. Here he is, being thrown into a pit of thick foam pieces... he loved loved loved it. :)
This is John and me in Chicago last month. This is after a 15 mile bike ride that included a flat tire (we won't mention who), fun coffee shop stop near Wrigley field, and a ride around Wrigleytown. I didn't know that the ap't's near Wrigley field had bleachers permanently built on the top for extra private seating. Very fun. Overall, it was a fun trip. We saw Wicked, too, and that was fun.
And this is our chunky bean at our favorite park. Isn't he so stinkin' cute!? :)

To remember and be grateful

Readers (family and friends), as we mark Patriot Day, I want you to know I am thinking of you and grateful for you.

I am grateful for life, to be an American, to breathe free.

Caleb on his first day of preschool

Caleb's class room

(I am repeating myself, but his back pack had his favorite big truck and a few diapers. I thought that was adorable!)

Trying to potty train in his "choo choo underwear"!
The picture of Matthew didn't upload; will send again.

A little bear and his dad

Happy to be home

And sound asleep in the recliner (bought last year for another
hospital recovery...) the kids are so happy to have him home! (As are
the rest of us, of course!) here's hoping for a smooth recovery. :)

On our way home

A picture for mom

Dan wanted thee to see this.

Dan

Dan walked around the floor twice today (see previous pic) and also went up half a flight of stairs two times.

Dan looking like mule

Dan is doing better... Making faces. Its a little bit hard to tell because of the lighting, but here he is sticking out his lips like Egret used to do.

Two planes...

One for the Senator, one for the Governor. (Except in reality they ride in the one on the right and the press corps rides in the one on the left.)

Introducing Flat Pharoah!

Folks: I am proud to introduce Flat Pharoah, the latest flat creature sent to me by my nieces and nephews. This one comes courtesy of Noah, Nathan, and Natalie.

Holding it is my -great- boss Kimmie.

Tonight

It's 9:20 and I'm still waiting to hear about Dan. He made it out of
surgery and is in recovery, but I don't know much more than that. Dad
spoke with Dr. Gialorenzi (the facial surgeon) and got a whole list of
notes about the surgery itself. Dan has one titanium plate in, and all
his teeth! He supposedly is going to have lots and lots of swelling
though. Will report more later!

Thanks Kak and aunt Elsie for the flowers! They're beautiful and I
love their smell. I love the cute vases too! :)

More on dan

I just showed Dan this picture of himself and he said "it doesn't even
look like I'm faking it".

I talked with Dr. Shaikh this morning, an older Indian guy with
terrible manners. He gave me a bit of trouble about my questions, but
thankfully Dan has an amazing nurse who has been finding out answers
for me.

He's having the jaw surgery today around 4 or 5. A orthopedic doctor
looked at his scapula and wants to get more xrays after they get his
chest tube changed from suction to gravity feed, maybe tomorrow. In
addition to the left scapula that is broken straight across, his right
scapula might have a small fracture too. More later!

Will, Hall, and Trist--

Here is your rocket on top of a mountain 10,000 ft mountain in Albuquerque NM!

One last picture

I just had to get a picture of Matthew in on the blog.. He's such a precious baby. This is typical for him (except for his ear splitting screams nowadays. If he doesn't get food fast enough when he's in his high chair, watch out!)--anyway, smiling and being rather cheerful and chipper is mostly usual for him... :) Ok. I'm done blogging now. Now that I've figured out how to post pictures, I've been a blogging fool! :)

More fun pics of our family...

This is of Caleb, feeding his "baby". I walked into the kitchen once, after playing/feeding Matthew in the living room, and this is what I found. :)

Caleb, on his 3rd birthday.. He didn't quite
know what to do with the candle and singing.. but he got the hang of it quickly! :) He got sung to three different times, and by the end, he was asking for "more Jesus? More hot?" :) (translation: more birthday song and more candles to blow out)

This is Caleb, also on his birthday, with his friends Parker and Hannah. Their mom Emily and I are friends, and Caleb obviously was having a a good time... :)

And, this is John and me, in Chicago. :) Not the best of John, but oh well. I think as I was taking this pic, he was saying, "Your hair is tickling my face...". :) We had a good time.

I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT I AM SO THANKFUL THAT DANNY IS ALIVE!!! THAT IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!!!! THANK YOU JESUS!

This is the worst of his back injuries. It's really more road rash than anything. They just took him downstairs to get a thoracic epidural to help with his chest and rib pain. It's more important that he clear up the junk in his chest than anything else right now, and the pain meds he's on aren't doing much. So hopefully he'll be breathing better soon. Tomorrow is still his jaw surgery, probably mid-afternoon. I spoke with his anesthesiologist, and she is hopeful that he will be breathing well enough on his own that he will not have to remain intubated after surgery. We'll have to see how it goes. More later!
