Dan update

He's sleeping right now. As you can see, his chest drainage tube is
still in He's still in a lot of pain. The biggest thing they are
worried about right now is pneumonia. He is very reluctant to cough at
all, due to the extreme pain it causes in his chest and side, but the
nurse told me earlier that if he doesn't keep trying to keep his lungs
clear, he has about a 90% chance of getting pneumonia. He was on the
machine that pumps his lungs up just a bit ago, and that must've
exhausted him, cause he's out cold now. He is still scheduled for his
jaw surgery early tomorrow afternoon, as long as his lung is stable
enough to go under anesthesia. The kids were in to see him a little
earlier. They were more impressed with the machines, tubes and lights
than anything else, which was probably good cause Dan was still very
out of it.
I'm hoping he'll wake up here in a bit and eat some soup... We'll
see. :)

PS: Kak, thanks for the flowers! They just got here and they smell
terrific and look so pretty. I'll read Dan thy card as soon as he
wakes up. :)

Danny

We love thee, Danny! We are all praying for thee, and just want thee to know how much thee is loved! Get better soon!

Labor Day weekend.

Caleb loved having Pop and Mima here. Here he is, helping Pop install a new faucet. In the next picture, he is riding his tricycle with a cushion from the chairs on his seat. If I have one to sit on, he needs one, too, although it's huge! :) The next one is my cake that John bought for me (don't look too closely; my eyes are puffy from crying). And, in the next one, we went to the park last night, and it's fairly self explanatory. :)

Shout outs to Will Hallie and Tristan

Hey guys---i am praying for you and your dad. I love you.

Here's your rocket in Albuquerque NM held by my buddy Layne Powers.

Dan

He's doing pretty well. He is still very sore. His jaw grinds when he
talks so he tries not to. I haven't seen his dr. yet but I'll update
when I do.

Dan

Hey guys-
I'm home from the hospital now. Dan is doing ok-- he's in a lot of pain, but he's on morphine and percoset, so he is as good as is realistic right now. His injuries include:

broken left scapula
punctured left lung
left ribs 2-8 broken
jaw broken in two places
a bunch of stitches in his tongue.. and
a chipped right front tooth (looks real classy)

I'll be heading back to the hospital at 6:30 tomorrow morning, so feel free to call me on my cell. Thanks, and love to all. Thanks for the calls and for praying.

Barvel Wrap Up

It is no exaggeration to say this weekend at Barvel was a Divine gift. Eleven members of the Frisby Crew gathered at Granny's cabin off Mill Bridge Road in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire.

Below, a by-the-numbers weekend review:

1: Number of times Granny has ever dipped herself into the pothole at Cold River, accomplished this weekend (following dad's example a few years ago, she reports).

1.5: Storage size, in gigabytes, of the photos and videos recorded.

2: Leaps Granny took from the cliff at Cold River.

2.5: Hours Ben, EK, Kristin, and Tom spent stuck in traffic outside of New York City en route NH.

3: Number of moose, loon, and owl sightings (or hearings) combined.

8: Combined days of school missed by Abby and Tom.

10: Liters of wine consumed in an unfortunate over estimation of consumption needs by the writer.

10.5: Hours driven through the night by Kat, Melissa, Abby, and Sara en route Barvel.

11: Members of the Crew who came (9 slept in the loft, 2 in the living room).

13: Hours Erik had between the time his flight was booked and the moment he needed to be on board a plane en route NH.

25: Amount of time, in seconds, Ann Passey was warmed by a Coyote sandwich.

52: Number of hours the entire Crew was together.

330: Amount, in dollars, spent on food for the Crew for 3 days.

361: Days until the next Crew visit to Barvel (Granny invited us back!).

6,164: Number of miles flown by Erik, the furthest flung traveler, to come to Barvel.

28,000: Combined miles traveled by all 11 friends to make it to Barvel

There are, of course, a number of other memories, but perhaps they are best kept in our hearts and paper journals and not broadcast on the Internet.
